Feeding Layers for Optimal Growth ¶
Feeding layers the right feed is crucial for their growth and production. According to Dennis Kigiri, Department of Animal Sciences, Egerton University, the feed should be of high quality to meet their energy requirements.
From day-old chicks to eight weeks old, chick mash is recommended. From eight weeks to 17 weeks, growers mash is suitable, and thereafter, layers mash can be introduced. It's essential to change feed gradually to avoid any adverse effects.
Avocado Yields in 10 Years ¶
Avocado trees produce one or two million flowers in a single flowering period, but only about 200-300 fruits mature. Carol Mutua, Department of Crops, Horticulture, and Soils, Egerton University, explains that the yield of an avocado tree increases with age.
Here's a breakdown of the yield in 10 years:
- 1st and 2nd years: growth
- 3rd year: 200-250 fruits per tree
- 5th year: 800 fruits per tree
- 6th year: 1,000 fruits/tree
- 7th year: 1,100 fruits/tree
- 8th year: 1,300 fruits/tree
- 9th year: 1,500 fruits/tree
- 10th year: more than 1,750 fruits per tree
Other Farming Questions ¶
Other farmers asked various questions, including where to get Kuroiler and Kenbrow chicks, how to plant dates, and where to purchase certified chia seeds.
Carol Mutua, Department of Crops, Horticulture, and Soils, Egerton University, provided guidance on these topics and more.
