Meat hawkers at City Market in Nairobi have been selling meat and chicken without the necessary health certificates and approvals from the county, sparking health and safety concerns.

The hawkers have been openly calling and dragging customers to buy their meat, which has raised questions about the quality and safety of the meat being sold.

Public Health Deputy Director for Nairobi City County, Wilson Langat, acknowledged the issue and stated that the matter is being addressed. In a meeting with traders at the market, Langat assured that the situation is being handled.

"It's true what is happening at City Market is not good for our health, but we are solving it. Yesterday, we had a meeting at Nyayo House before we take any action," Langat told Ghetto Radio News.

Normal business has resumed at the market after a three-day scuffle between shoppers and hawkers. Traders at the market, including Zakham Bhatti, have accused the hawkers of operating in front of their premises without paying revenue for the stalls.
