On July 10, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Ombo, Migori County, where a house help allegedly poisoned a child to death.
According to reports, the house help, identified as Belinda Otieno, is suspected of poisoning the five children, resulting in the death of one.
Two other children were hospitalized at St Joseph's Hospital in Ombo after consuming the suspected poisoned food.
Another house help, a colleague of Otieno, is also admitted to the hospital after eating the poisoned food.
The employer of the house help, Betha Oluoch, reported that she suspected the food was poisoned after Otieno fled the scene when the children started falling ill.
It is alleged that Otieno had been complaining about delayed salaries, which might have led her to commit the heinous crime.
Fortunately, medics at the Ombo Hospital confirmed that the poisoned children are out of danger.
