Published on July 10, 2019, Samsung Galaxy J5 (SM-J530F) was first introduced in June 2017, running on Android 7.0 Nougat. The device later received Android 8.1 Oreo in September 2018.
It's worth noting that the Galaxy J5 family is not typically known for receiving two major OS upgrades. However, Samsung has made significant improvements in software updates in recent times. The company recently rolled out July 2019 security patches for the Galaxy S8, ahead of Google Pixels.
The Wi-Fi Alliance has cleared the Galaxy J5 2017 for Android Pie, indicating that Samsung is currently testing the OS on the device. The update is expected to roll out within four to eight weeks from now.
While Samsung is expected to upgrade several devices to Android Q, the Galaxy J5 2017 will not be among them.
