The Eldoret Half Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, October 6, with an increased sponsorship of Sh12 million and improved prize money for the winners.
Organizers have introduced three categories for the race: a 21km event for both men and women, and a 5km family fun race.
The winners of the men's and women's 21km events will receive Sh350,000 each, a Sh100,000 increase from last year's prize money. The first and second runners-up will take home Sh250,000 and Sh150,000 respectively, also a Sh100,000 increase from last year.
Family Group Foundation Manager, Jacqueline Mathaga, said, 'We are honoured to once again partner with Athletics Kenya to deliver a bigger and better 2019 Family Group Eldoret Half Marathon. Our commitment is in recognizing and nurturing talent through athletics and bringing about transformation to our society.'
Mathaga added, 'Through the proceeds of the Marathon, Champions Run for Autism, a cause we took up in 2016, we have renovated 2 classrooms and accommodated 44 pupils in the Special Needs Programme at Sosiani Primary School.'
She further stated, 'We hope to attract even more individual and corporate sponsors in this year's marathon and give an opportunity to children living with autism to access quality education.'
Notably, last year's winners included World Half Marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei, who won the women's title, and Kelvin Kiptum Cheruiyot, who took the men's honours.
