Kenyan football icon Joe Kadenge, who passed away on Sunday after a long battle with stroke, will be remembered by having Nyayo National Stadium renamed in his honor, the Senate has proposed.
On July 10, 2019, Kadenge's family confirmed that he would be buried on Saturday, July 20 in Soliani Village of Hamisi Sub-county in Vihiga County.
At a press conference at Kadenge's Nairobi home in Mariakani Estate, South 'B', the family outlined a tentative program for the celebration of the former Kenyan International's life.
Friends and elected leaders, including ODM leader Raila Odinga and Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, have been visiting the home to condole with the family and receive a briefing on the burial plans.
"He promoted the game of football nationally. He was a very selfless person when it came to football. We have lost a great football legend in the country who promoted Kenyan football to international standards as well," Raila Odinga eulogized Kadenge.
