Kenya: Man Nearly Kills Butcher for 'Throwing Away' His 7kg Beef

On November 14, 2018, Peter Mutisya ordered 7kg of beef from a butchery owned by Joseph Ndegwa in Hola, Tana River County. Mr. Mutisya was known to Mr. Ndegwa, and he was asked to store the beef in the freezer until he could pick it up and make payment.

Days turned into months, and Mr. Mutisya had neither been spotted in town nor at his residence. He would call Mr. Ndegwa, insisting that his beef be preserved until he returns.

On July 7, 2019, Mr. Ndegwa decided to dispose of the beef, but when Mr. Mutisya found out, he went ballistic, warning that if Mr. Ndegwa sold his beef, he would close shop the following morning.

Mr. Mutisya walked into the butcher the next day, claiming he had been on an adventurous trip to Marsabit for a 'well-paying hustle.' He then asked for his 7kg beef, but Mr. Ndegwa had already disposed of it.

Mr. Mutisya grabbed a short axe and threw it at Mr. Ndegwa, narrowly missing his head as he ran for his life. An elderly man intervened by knocking Mr. Mutisya unconscious with a club.

When Mr. Mutisya regained consciousness, his hands had been tied, and he was surrounded by elderly men with Mr. Ndegwa in their midst inside a compound. The incident has left many in confusion and speculation on witchcraft.
