On July 10, 2019, Murang'a County Water Chief Officer Antony Maina urged water companies in the county to put aside their differences and provide clean water to residents.

Speaking at Kiangage in Kiharu, Maina emphasized that water is a basic commodity that should be distributed evenly to all residents without prejudice.

He lamented that instead of providing water, the five water companies in Murang'a are embroiled in territorial wars, which is affecting the common citizen.

Maina called for the merging of the five water companies into one entity, the Murang'a Water Service Corporation, to address the water issues in the county.

He praised Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria for making it his agenda to address the water wars and ensure all residents have access to clean water.

Maina also urged local residents to report any instances of water denial to the County Government for action.

He further appealed to politicians from the county to focus on development and support Governor Wa Iria, saying those fighting the Governor are derailing development in their regions.

Specifically, Maina asked Kandara MP Alice Muthoni Wahome to partner with the County Government to reconnect water supply to Gaichanjiru ward, which was affected by a road contractor's destruction of the main pipe.

“While we still need the road, people cannot live without water. They cannot wait for the road to be completed without the essential commodity,” Maina said.
