On July 10, 2019, the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) took swift action against Goshen Medical College in Thika, Kiambu County, revoking its training license with immediate effect.

The move comes as part of an ongoing crackdown on training institutions offering nutrition-related courses without the necessary facilities.

According to KNDI, the college lacked the required laboratories, equipment, and qualified personnel to support training in nutrition and dietetics, contravening Section 6 of the KNDI Act.

As a result, KNDI CEO David Okeyo directed the college to transfer 20 students currently enrolled in the program to other accredited institutions at the school's cost.

The decision follows a series of alarming cases of medical negligence in the country, with hundreds of doctors found culpable and sanctioned, some losing their licenses or being directed to undergo supervised training.

Earlier this year, a family was awarded Ksh46.5 million in a medical negligence lawsuit against The Nairobi Hospital, while Mater Hospital was ordered to pay Ksh2.4 million to a woman who suffered a perforated uterus and intestine during treatment.

Additionally, Shalom Hospital in Machakos was closed in May after the death of a seven-month-old baby who was allegedly injected with a dose of morphine instead of receiving proper treatment for a minor burn.
