Kenya's national basketball team, The Lionesses, has been making strides in recent years, but they are still seeking better facilitation to improve their performance in international competitions.
According to Hilda Luvandwa, a national team player and former captain of The Lionesses, the team has a good coaching staff, but the training amenities are still not up to par.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Luvandwa noted that poor facilitation has contributed to the team's below-par performance in the past.
“Mostly, when we head for club championships or rather national level competitions we are normally dominated by teams like Angola and Mozambique who are from Zone 6 and lately we have not had a nice performance at clubs level,” said Luvandwa.
Despite this, Luvandwa remains optimistic about the team's chances, saying they are still doing well and eager to show their mettle in Africa.
The Lionesses recently reached the finals in the All African Games qualifiers, where they were defeated by Egypt. However, they managed to secure a notable achievement, with Felmas Koranga scooping the best rebounder tag with 70 rebounds.
“Although we are still doing quite well, we can even do better if we receive facilitation that equals or even surpasses our counterparts so that when we clash with them when we are well prepared,” said Koranga.
The Lionesses are set to participate in the Afro-basket championships in Dakar, Senegal.
