According to a study by US scholars Brian Gunia and Emma Levine, lying may be a vice that makes one a top performer in certain careers.

Published on July 10, 2019, the research found that deception is perceived to signal competence in occupations that rely on a selling model.

Marketers, for instance, are often stereotyped as being willing to go to great lengths to attain the highest sales possible, even if it means lying to customers.

However, customers often bear the brunt of deception when what they sign up for turns out to have been based on a lie.
