On July 4th, Netflix released the highly anticipated third season of its hit show "Stranger Things," which has now become the most viewed show in Netflix history.

According to the streaming service, 40.7 million households have streamed the series in four days since its release, with 18.2 million finishing the entire season.

"@Stranger_Things 3 is breaking Netflix records! 40.7 million household accounts have been watching the show since its July 4 global launch — more than any other film or series in its first four days. And 18.2 million have already finished the entire season." — Netflix US (@netflix) July 8, 2019

Analyst Justin Patterson noted that the viewership implies the show's new season makes up 26% of Netflix's global paid subscriber base.

As the content breadth and quality improve, driving more engagement, Netflix may see further pricing upside, according to Patterson.

The "Stranger Things" franchise is also expanding into a mobile game, set to be released next year.
