On July 6, 2019, Burundi's national football team was eliminated in the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt.

However, the team's players were left without their promised bonuses, sparking an investigation that has led to the arrest of the vice-president of the Burundian Football Federation (FFB), Aimable Habimana, also known as Marandura.

According to a member of the Burundian FA, who wished to remain anonymous, Mr. Habimana was arrested on Saturday, July 6, 2019, along with two other employees, as part of the ongoing investigation.

The BBC has tried to contact the Burundian police for comment but was unsuccessful.
