On July 10, 2019, a group of 30 residents from Terik ward in Nandi South delivered a petition to the Nandi county assembly, expressing their discontent over the diversion of Sh5 million allocated for the construction of a polytechnic in their area.
The residents, accompanied by their MCA Osborn Komen, claimed that the funds were redirected to other wards without their consent. They argued that Terik ward has been marginalized for too long and that the people are not ready to let it go.
According to the residents, the funds were allocated to the project after they gave it priority during a public participation exercise conducted by the county assembly in the area. They also expressed frustration over the county government's reluctance to release funds for a hospital project, which was to be constructed through a contribution of Sh10 million from William Ruto.
Addressing the media outside the assembly, MCA Komen accused two of his colleagues who head crucial committees in the assembly of using their positions to frustrate development in his ward. He blamed them for the lack of goodwill from the county, which is supposed to supervise, coordinate, and pay for work done.
As a result, contractors working on projects in his ward are threatening to abandon them due to the lack of payment and supervision from the county.
