On August 8, 2019, Arsenal announced that they had agreed a transfer fee with Celtic to sign Kieran Tierney, a Scottish left-back.
After weeks of negotiations, the Gunners finally secured a deal for the highly-rated defender, who will join the club on a five-year contract.
Tierney is set to become Arsenal's fifth signing of the season, following in the footsteps of Nicolas Pepe, who joined the club in a £72 million deal earlier in the summer.
The Gunners had been in hot pursuit of Tierney all summer, but were initially rebuffed by Celtic's £25 million bid. However, they made one last push on the final day of the transfer window and were successful in securing the deal.
Despite budget restrictions, Arsenal were able to secure Tierney's signing, with the club reportedly using instalments to help fund the deal.
With Tierney's signing now complete, Arsenal will turn their attention to finding a centre-back before the transfer window slams shut. David Luiz has emerged as a surprise target, with Chelsea open to the idea of selling the Brazilian defender.
Luiz failed to train with Chelsea's first team on the final day of the transfer window and is hopeful of pushing through a move to north London. The Brazilian would set the Gunners back just £8 million, a fraction of the £60 million they were quoted to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.
