Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o has spoken about how her Oscar win in 2014 made it easier for her to acquire a US Green Card.
Speaking in an interview, Lupita revealed that she had struggled to establish herself in the US as she did not have permanent residency.
She explained that to acquire a Green Card, she was required to get a permanent job or win an international films award.
At the time, Lupita was 36 years old and had already established herself as a talented actress.
She was born in Mexico to Kenyan parents and lived there for a year before her family returned to Kenya.
Published on July 10, 2019, in an interview with Vogue in 2015, Lupita opened up about being Luo, telling the magazine that it made her feel uncomfortable as a teenager.
