On July 10, 2019, the Registrar of Sports declined to recognize the group elected as AFC Leopards' leaders last month, casting a shadow over the club's future.

Club members and stakeholders have since resolved to meet on July 14 at Railway Club in Nairobi to appoint a nine-member committee to oversee the club's affairs for at least 90 days before 'proper elections' are held.

According to Vincent Shimoli, a former club official, the new committee will work on amending the club's constitution and by-laws to align with the Kenyan constitution and Fifa statutes.

However, the registrar's decision may prolong the stalemate, plunging the underperforming club into fresh wrangles that could undermine their preparations for the 2019-2020 season.

Without the registrar's nod, the new team led by Dan Shikanda cannot sign players or transact business, leaving the club in limbo.

The point of contention is the team's failure to provide a three-year list of genuine members from at least 24 counties as required by the registrar.

Wasike had also directed the club's executive to dissolve the electoral board members, but a section of members went ahead and elected Shikanda as chairman on June 23.

Others elected to the new team were Oliver Sikuku as secretary and Maurice Chichi as treasurer.

Shikanda's team has been at the center of a power struggle between rival political groupings in the Western region.

As a result, the new team has been unable to secure financing to recruit players, and the club's current sponsor, SportPesa, has refused to do business with a faction not recognized by the registrar.
