Published on January 26, 2022, a Ugandan firm, Sarrai Group of companies, has been awarded the Mumias Sugar Company revival takeover bid. However, the award has been met with resistance from parties challenging the takeover.
West Kenya Company, which put in the highest bid of 36 billion shillings, claims they were unfairly blocked from the process. According to their lawyer, Paul Muite, the company's bid was superior to that of Sarrai Group, but they were still denied the opportunity to take over the company.
The contesting parties have also accused Sarrai Company of beginning operations despite a court order blocking them from doing so. This move has been seen as a blatant disregard for the law and a clear attempt to undermine the legal process.
