On a tour of Baringo County in 2019, Deputy President William Ruto declared his preparedness for the 2022 presidential contest, stating that he had mobilized enough resources for his campaign.

According to The Star, Ruto emphasized that his focus at the time was to support President Kenyatta's development agenda, while maintaining that their relationship remained intact.

During a speech in Eldama-Ravine, Ruto urged the Kalenjin community to unite behind him, saying that he was only one step away from the presidency.

He called for peace and unity among citizens and leaders, stating that a single voice was necessary to move the country forward.
