On July 10, 2019, a devastating domestic tragedy unfolded in Thome estate, Nairobi, where a 32-year-old woman took the lives of her husband and their two children before ending her own life.

The woman, a food trader, had been embroiled in recurrent domestic disputes with her husband, a casual laborer, according to Geoffrey Mugo, the nyumba kumi chairman in Thome.

Mr. Mugo revealed that the couple had previously reported their disputes to him, with the husband alleging that his wife had beaten him on several occasions.

However, the husband had chosen not to report the incidents to the police or chief, as he had told Mr. Mugo.

On the day of the tragedy, the woman descended upon her sleeping husband with an axe, killing him instantly. She then strangled their two children, aged 14 and 3 years, before hanging herself with a rope in the house.

The bodies of the four were discovered in the afternoon after the woman's customers from a nearby construction site raised concerns over her whereabouts.

Deputy OCPD Kasarani area and Kasarani police station OCS Andrew Muchemi visited the scene before the bodies were transferred to City Mortuary.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the police working to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident.
