Dennis Itumbi, the State House digital strategist and blogger, is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges related to a fake letter that allegedly claimed a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
The storm surrounding the assassination claims has intensified, with some politicians demanding that Mr. Ruto take responsibility for the fake letter, while others are calling for an investigation to determine who is behind the plot.
According to police sources, Itumbi will be charged with creating a false document, although there were initial plans to charge him with treason for allegedly imagining the death of a sitting deputy president.
Itumbi was detained for five days last week to allow police to conclude their investigations, during which time they questioned him and 256 members of a WhatsApp group known as Tangatanga, which he is a part of.
Itumbi's lawyer, Moses Chelanga, stated that the detectives had not informed him of any additional charges against his client, but would make the information public if it became available.
