Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has made it clear that his country will not support Deputy President William Ruto's presidential campaign in the upcoming General Election.
Speaking on Monday, January 24, Museveni stated that Uganda's policy of impartiality in foreign elections means that his country will not take sides in Kenya's presidential election.
"The elections in Kenya or any other country is a matter of the people of that country. Those people are the ones who are competent in deciding what to do. Supporting Ruto, we'll never do anything like that. We shall never take sides," he stated.
Despite their close personal relationship in the past decade, Museveni emphasized that Uganda's policy of impartiality will be maintained.
Deputy President Ruto had campaigned for Museveni in the 2016 and 2021 Ugandan presidential elections, and had recently visited Uganda, but was blocked from travelling to the country.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has questioned the relationship between Ruto and Museveni, terming it as suspicious.
