On January 24, 2022, Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni clarified his stance on Kenya's upcoming presidential elections, slated for August 2022.
Museveni's comments came as MPs from his National Resistance Movement (NRM) party joined Deputy President William Ruto on the campaign trail in West Pokot, sparking speculation about potential support for Ruto's bid.
However, Museveni denied backing Ruto or any other candidate for President of Kenya, stating, "Elections in Kenya or any other African country are a matter for the people of that country. We never take sides in the internal affairs of other countries."
