Kenyan journalist Larry Madowo is trading his BBC Africa Business Editor role for a new chapter in the United States. He will join Columbia University in New York as a full-time student next month.
According to Madowo, he has just three weeks left at the BBC before embarking on his studies. He tweeted, “Hard to believe that I’ve got just 3 weeks left with the BBC before taking a break to be a full-time student again at Columbia. New York City, I’ll see you soon but for now, Nairobi, be nice to me,”
At Columbia, Madowo will be part of the prestigious Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Business and Economics at the Columbia Journalism School, alongside nine other fellows. This global mid-career journalism program focuses on business, economics, finance, and tech journalism.
As a Knight-Bagehot Fellow, Madowo will receive a living stipend of $60,000 (approximately Sh6 million) in addition to having his tuition fully paid.
Madowo joined the BBC in April 2018, having previously worked at NTV.
