Kenya Power engineers have successfully restored a critical transmission line that was under reconstruction following a nationwide blackout 10 days ago.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma announced the completion of the high-voltage line on Sunday, praising the team of engineers who worked tirelessly to fix the damaged infrastructure.
"At 2045hrs, yesterday, the 220KV temporary restoration of the Dandora-Embakasi transmission line was energised. Well done to the teams that made this happen. The community has been a key supporter in this effort, and I welcome their commitment to secure the infrastructure," CS Juma tweeted on January 23, 2022.
A temporary line at Mukuru Kwa Njenga has also been completed, with CS Juma conducting a final inspection and meeting with the Kenya Power team that constructed the temporary line within 10 days.
The collapse of the Kiambere – Embakasi high voltage transmission power line on January 11, 2022, prompted a probe by the DCI, with investigations revealing that the basement of the Angle towers of Kenya Power's High voltage power lines in Embakasi had been vandalized and the cross beams removed and unbolted.
Power supply has been erratic since the incident, with most areas in the city experiencing frequent outages while others have been on low voltage.
