On July 9, 2019, Arsenal announced the appointment of Edu as their new technical director, a role that will see him coordinate the work of the club's first-team coaching group, academy, player scouting, and recruitment.

Edu, a former player and Brazil legend, has a deep connection with the club, having played for Arsenal from 2001 to 2006 and being a member of the Invincibles squad in the 2003-04 season.

He has also had a successful career in Brazil, playing for Corinthians and Valencia, and has been the general coordinator of the Brazil national team.

After retiring in 2010, Edu became Corinthians' director of football and has been instrumental in helping the team achieve success.

As Arsenal's new technical director, Edu will be responsible for overseeing the club's first-team coaching group, academy, player scouting, and recruitment, and will be on the flight to the United States as the club's pre-season tour gets underway on July 11.

"Arsenal has always had a special place in my heart and I'm thrilled to be returning to this great club," Edu said after his appointment.

"We have a strong squad and some very talented young players with fantastic people at every level. I'm looking forward to helping make a difference," he added.
