Nairobi Water captain Gladys Chilo has expressed her concerns about the lack of exposure for Kenya's women's handball team, saying it hinders their growth and development.
Speaking after her team's Super Cup title win over Ulinzi, Chilo emphasized the importance of regular matches for the national team, stating that they only play once every four years.
“The only setback is lack of exposure as we only play once after four years and we are hoping in future there will be more matches to enable us get exposed in various areas,” she said.
Chilo also called on the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) to secure sponsorship for the women's national team and clubs participating in the league, which she believes would help form more teams and increase competition in the women's league.
“Sponsorship will help in the formation of many teams and with that it means competition will be stiff in the women's league hence enhancing our sport as a country. The teams need exposure not only here in the country but also outside East and central Africa,” she advised.
Her sentiments were echoed by National Cereal Produce Board (NCPB) captain Timothy Kirimi, who believes that the growth of handball will bring professionalism to the sport and give it the limelight it deserves.
