On July 8, 2019, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho spoke out against claims of an alleged assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking in Nairobi, Kibicho dismissed the claims as baseless, pointing out that no one had filed a complaint on the matter.
"I hear assassinations claims… Who has complained? I am yet to hear someone complain. That’s utter nonsense and unfounded claims. We should stop creating things that don’t exist,” said Kibicho during the launch of a borehole at Shauri Moyo Police Station in Nairobi.
According to Kibicho, such unfounded claims should not dominate media headlines, and instead, the country should be led by logic and truths.
He noted, "We are credited with intelligence and brains, better than what we are hearing. It’s unfortunate we are occupied by media talking about imaginations. We must be a country led by logic and truths; it’s unfortunate that people make conclusions even before investigations. Political interference should not be accepted,”
Claims of the alleged assassination plot against Ruto were contained in an unverified letter that was circulated on social media two weeks prior.
Blogger Dennis Itumbi, who works for Ruto, had been arrested and was expected to be charged in connection with the letter.
