On July 9, 2019, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) confirmed that Kenyan long-distance runners Jacob Kibet and Joyce Chepkirui have been given provisional suspensions for violating Anti-Doping rules.

According to the AIU, Kibet was found to have evaded submitting a sample for collection, while Chepkirui had discrepancies in her Athletes Biological Passport (ABP) and used 'prohibited substances.'

The AIU explained on their website, 'The AIU confirms a Provisional Suspension against Kenyan long-distance runners Jacob Kibet Chulyo Kendagor and Joyce Chepkirui for violations of the @iaaforg Anti-Doping Rules.'

Chepkirui, a former Commonwealth Games 10,000-metre champion, is one of the athletes affected by the suspension.

The AIU's decision to suspend the two athletes is a significant move towards promoting clean sport and upholding the integrity of athletics.
