On Tuesday afternoon, a 9-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a 60-year-old man while traveling in a Sieta Sacco matatu on the Marua-Chaka route in Nyeri.
The girl's grandmother handed the man one of the two children she was carrying, and he allegedly took advantage of the situation to commit the heinous act.
When the girl regained consciousness, she narrated the ordeal to her grandmother, who immediately alerted the locals.
The suspect was arrested and taken to Kiganjo Police Post, where he was detained pending further investigations.
Nyeri Town Sub-county Police Commander Paul Kuria confirmed the incident, stating that the police had launched investigations and were waiting for a medical examination on the girl before charging the suspect.
The minor was taken to Kiganjo Health Centre for medical attention.
