On July 8, 2019, two Administration Police officers and a driver attached to Homa Bay County Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata were arrested and charged with murder.

The officers, Fredrick Kimanzi and Lawi Gitari, and the driver, Alex Onyango Arot, were accused of murdering Abdinasir Ahmed at a bar in Ndhiwa town, Homa Bay County.

According to the court, the trio jointly murdered Ahmed between April 27 and April 2, 2019, at Status lounge restaurant in Ndhiwa town.

However, the suspects did not take plea as their mental health status is yet to be established.

Justice David Karanja ordered that they be taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for medical assessment, after which they be remanded at Homa Bay GK Prison for seven days.

The judge further directed Homa Bay Deputy Registrar to appoint a defense lawyer for the accused.

The three will return to court on July 16, 2019, when they are expected to take plea.
