As part of efforts to support the universal health coverage project by the Jubilee administration, the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has allocated Sh3 million to provide free National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover to at least 500 vulnerable people in Suna West constituency, Migori County.
According to area MP Peter Masara, the money will pay for the NHIF cover of the 500 people for at least one year. He added that another Sh2.4 million will be allocated in two weeks' time to cover another 400 beneficiaries.
Mr. Masara expressed his belief that if the national government and the NG-CDF continue to work together, at least 3,700 vulnerable individuals who have been identified in the constituency will benefit from the NHIF programme.
Ms Maria Lekonoto, the area NG-CDF board director, emphasized the importance of targeting the vulnerable, including the elderly and widows who have no source of income. She encouraged partnerships to ensure that universal health coverage, one of President Uhuru Kenyatta's main agenda, is realized.
Migori County NHIF branch manager Mark Chepkiyeng thanked the Suna West CDF board for setting aside money to take care of the health of the vulnerable.
