Published on January 15, 2022, a Nairobi court has intervened in the Mumias Sugar Company saga, suspending any further leasing of the company's properties.
The move comes after a group of sugar cane farmers, represented by lawyer Danstan Omari, filed an urgent application before the commercial court seeking a conservatory order to stop any further interference by companies or politicians.
Justice Winfridah Okwany gave directions, stating that there has been significant interference in the company's revival following the appointment of Ugandan Firm Sarrai Group as a receiver manager by the Kenya Commercial Bank.
Justice Alfred Mabeya had previously allowed the appointment of an administrator/receiver to revive the company on December 19, 2021.
The matter is due for hearing on January 25.
