The CBA Africa Concours d'Elegance, now in its 49th year, is set to take place on September 29th at the Nairobi racecourse. Organized by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, this prestigious event will showcase an impressive array of cars and motorcycles.
Among the 70 highly prepared cars will be 'golden oldies' in the pre-1940 class, including a 1970 Volkswagen pickup being refurbished by students and instructors at the Rift Valley Technical Institute. The institute, an East African Centre of Excellence in TVET, has owned the pickup since it was new and has been encouraged to participate in the event by Dr. Kevit Desai, the PS for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
The event will give owners of well-maintained cars and motorcycles the opportunity to have them assessed by experienced judges and compete for overall awards and prizes in 20 classes. The regulations for the event are available on the event website or from the Concours office at the Bob Dewar Publicity Suite in Norfolk Towers.
With an international flavor, the 2019 Concours has already attracted entries from Uganda and South Africa. Among the latest additions to the list is a fine 1984 Mercedes Benz 230E coupe, which has undergone a complete restoration, and a 1967 Haflinger, a unique and unusual car entry.
