On January 13, 2022, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed a new year luncheon at State House, Nairobi, where he emphasized the importance of unity among Kenyan leaders.
Speaking to Members of Parliament from across the political divide, President Kenyatta urged them to conduct peaceful campaigns ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
"I hope and pray that this spirit we have started with, we shall be able to carry on with it through till elections are over and for us to be able to bequeath again a new administration peace, togetherness and a focus on the issues that affect the people of this Republic," the President said.
President Kenyatta commended Members of Parliament for passing crucial bills, including the anti-money laundering bill and the National Hospital Insurance Fund Bill, which he said would improve governance and delivery of services to Kenyans.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was also in attendance, echoed the President's sentiments, urging the Senate to emulate the National Assembly in passing the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill and other laws before them.
Mr. Odinga noted that constitutional making is a work in progress and that Kenyans desire laws that will ensure good governance.
