Published on July 9, 2019, Tanzania's national football team, the Taifa Stars, parted ways with coach Emmanuel Amunike following their disappointing exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Amunike took over as the team's coach in August 2018 and led them to qualify for the finals for the first time in 39 years.
According to a statement from the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Amunike and the federation jointly agreed to terminate their contract.
“TFF and the coach of the national team, the Taifa Stars, Emmanuel Amunike, have jointly agreed to terminate our contract,” the TFF said.
Amunike's tenure was marked by a series of disappointing losses, including a 3-2 defeat to Kenya, which saw the team give up the lead twice.
Following the loss, Amunike expressed his desire for the team to gain exposure to stronger competition and for players to be in more competitive leagues to develop their skills.
However, the team's squad composition did not support this goal, with only three members based in Europe and 14 playing in the domestic league.
