Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has expressed his delight with the performance of the national football team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, held from June 21 to July 19.

Despite the team's round of 16 exit after a 1-0 defeat to Senegal, Museveni awarded them a sum of KSh 100 million in addition to their wages and bonuses.

According to Museveni, the players will receive the biggest chunk of the donation, with each player set to pocket an additional Sh2.5 million from the president's donation.

In a tweet, Museveni stated, 'I'm very happy the @UgandaCranes went up to the last 16. I know we will perform better next time. I will organize 1 million dollars with the government to distribute it among the players and officials. Of course, the officials will not get as much as the players.'

It remains to be seen if Sebastien Desabre, the team's former head coach, will also benefit from Museveni's donation after resigning from his post hours after the team's elimination.
