On July 9, 2019, education officials launched an investigation into allegations of bullying at Nairobi School after a parent claimed her son was left needing surgery due to injuries inflicted by prefects.

The investigation team, comprising four officers from the Teachers Service Commission, six from the Nairobi regional education office, and Mr. Caspal Maina, the school principal, was formed to look into the matter.

Nairobi Westlands Sub-County Education Director Mr. Chirchir assured the Nation that the investigations would be completed by the end of Tuesday.

The school has denied access to journalists covering the story, citing the ongoing investigation.

A Form Two student was allegedly assaulted by prefects, with the abuse said to have started when he was in Form One.

The student's parents received a call from the school last week to pick up their son due to his poor health.

Relatives confirmed that the student is set to undergo surgery, and the boy's mother shared her frustration in a WhatsApp group, stating, "…..Am looking at our son now and I can’t believe Nairobi School has wasted him so much. We have to supervise him even as he eats and brushes his teeth."

The student spent a few days in a sanatorium after the incident and told his friend that he was beaten a lot by prefects all over his body, mostly his head.
