Published on July 9, 2019, Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay has denied reports of signing Rwandan midfielder Djabel Manishimiwe.
Speaking after the team's 2-1 win over DR Congo's AS Maniema in the Cecafa Kagame Cup, Oktay stated that he was unaware of the transfer.
"I don't even know the boy," Oktay said, visibly surprised by the reports.
He added that the team was not looking to sign a midfielder, but rather a striker to replace the recently sold Rwandan striker Jacques Tuyisenge, who was sold to Angola's Petro Atletico for Sh15 million.
The reports of Manishimiwe's transfer to Gor Mahia had sparked confusion after Rwandan club Rayon Sport announced that it had agreed to sell the 27-year-old attacking midfielder to the Kenyan champions, only for him to sign with Rwanda Patriotic Army (APR) a few days later.
