On Wednesday night, a group of thieves broke into the Boigesa Seventh Day Adventist church in Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County, leaving congregants shocked the next morning.

According to Tom Mosoba, a church elder, the robbers smashed into the church, cooked bananas, ate, and stole various equipment, including a bag of maize, two speakers, a microphone, and a guitar.

Mosoba explained that the thieves used a hack saw to break the main door and forced one of them through a gap between a lintel and a roof to access the room.

Area Chief Henry Mirera confirmed that one suspect from the Kenyenya sub-county had been arrested and was being held at Itumbe Police Station for questioning.

“The suspect was seized at the location and has been given to criminal investigation officers to question him,” Mirera said.

He added that churches in the area often lack guards, and elders are responsible for ferrying equipment during church service days and returning it to their homes.

Chief Mirera urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police or clan elders.
