Ex-Man United Star Ander Herrera Reveals Why He Left for PSG ¶
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed that Manchester United's board was to blame for his free transfer to the French champions.
Speaking in his first interview as a PSG player, Herrera admitted that the failed contract negotiations with Manchester United led to his free transfer.
He signed a five-year deal with PSG until 2024, after spending five years at Old Trafford. Herrera's previous contract at Manchester United expired on July 1.
During his time at Manchester United, Herrera earned 189 appearances across all competitions, scoring 20 times, and won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League.
Reflecting on his time at Manchester United, Herrera said, "I don’t like looking at the past but there were differences regarding the project and my importance within it," in an interview with Goal.com.
He also noted, "I was very happy, I have a lot to thank the club for, the fans and also Solskjaer. He did a lot for me to stay, but things didn’t happen. They arrived late," in an interview with Marca.
Going down memory lane, Herrera admitted that winning the player of the year award in 2017 was among his proudest moments, and he would not have considered joining another English club after five years at Old Trafford.
