On July 8, 2019, American rapper Asap Rocky was arrested in Stockholm, Sweden, for alleged assault. According to reports, Rocky and his entourage allegedly assaulted two Swedish pedestrians, leading to his detention.
Rocky faces up to six years in prison and has been denied bail due to his status as a rapper, which the Swedish Supreme Court claims puts him at flight risk.
Rocky's friends and collaborators, including Tyler the Creator and Schoolboy Q, have expressed their support for the rapper on social media. Tyler the Creator tweeted, 'no more Sweden for me, ever,' while Schoolboy Q vowed to boycott the country for detaining Asap Rocky.
Even TI chimed in, slamming the country's decision to hold the rapper in jail. The hashtag #FLACKO has been trending, with fans and friends calling for a boycott of Sweden.
The hip-hop community has a history of boycotting products that they claim are against the culture. In 2006, Frederic Rouzad, the manager of the company that makes Cristal champagne, was asked by The Economist about the popularity of his champagne among rappers.
