Kenyan film and theatre is experiencing a renaissance, with big African streaming platforms financing and hosting Kenyan content. In response, KBC has launched a new weekly news programme called 'Cinema and Theatres' to keep tabs on the evolving industry.
On January 6, 2022, KBC premiered the first episode of 'Cinema and Theatres', focusing on the film 'Nafsi', led by Mumbi Maina. The film, directed by Reuben Odanga, premiered in Kenyan cinemas in December of the previous year.
Reuben Odanga's directorial debut marked a significant shift from his popular Swahili telenovelas, such as 'Nira, Nuru, Saida and Selina'. The film's premiere episode is available to watch on YouTube.
