On January 4, 2022, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni received his Covid-19 booster shot, a move that comes as the country experiences a surge in coronavirus cases.
According to the Ministry of Health, the president, who is fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca, received a booster dose of Pfizer to enhance his immunity against the virus.
Mr. Museveni was advised by his doctors, including Health Ministry PS Diana Atwine and Dr. Magooba, to get a booster dose, citing that mixing vaccines is not only acceptable but also beneficial.
“My doctors have just given me a booster dose…They said mixing vaccines is not only alright but even better. So, this is just to alert all of you that you should get fully vaccinated,” Mr. Museveni said.
The president reiterated his commitment to fully reopening the economy when 22 million Ugandans aged 18 years and above are fully vaccinated, as well as providing booster doses for the 3.3 million Ugandans aged 50 years and above.
As of January 2022, a total of 11.37 million vaccine doses have been administered in Uganda, out of the 32 million doses received since March 2021.
