On July 8, 2019, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho spoke out against baseless claims of a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking at the commissioning of a borehole at Shauri Moyo Police Station in Nairobi, Kibicho stated, “I hear assassinations claims… Who has complained? I am yet to hear someone who has complained. That’s utter nonsense and unfounded claims. We should stop creating things that don’t exist.”

He emphasized that the claims should not dominate headlines, as they are useless and baseless, and that the government should focus on facts and logic.

“We are credited with intelligence and brains, better than what we are hearing. It’s unfortunate we are occupied by media talking about imaginations. We must be a country led by logic and truths, it’s unfortunate that people make conclusions even before investigations. Political interference should not be accepted,” said the Interior PS.

Police are still investigating the claims, which have led to the arrest and detention of Dennis Itumbi, the State House digital director, who allegedly faked a letter purporting to expose the said plan to eliminate the DP before the 2022 presidential elections.
