This marks the first week-by-week decrease in positive results for eight weeks, according to the league.
Between December 27, 2021, and January 2, 2022, a total of 14,250 COVID-19 tests were administered on players and club staff, resulting in 94 new positive cases (0.65%), as stated by the league.
The decrease in cases comes as a relief to the league, which has seen 18 games postponed since last month due to COVID-19 outbreaks and injuries at various clubs.
Several high-profile players, including Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp and players Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino, and Joel Matip, have missed games due to positive COVID-19 tests.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has also confirmed that the club is monitoring a couple of possible new COVID-19 cases, although it is unclear whether they will miss the upcoming game.
