Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi is set to visit Kenya, marking a significant milestone in the country's diplomatic relations with Africa.
Minister Wang will pay an official visit to Eritrea, Kenya, and Comoros from January 4 to 7, as announced by the Foreign Ministry.
This will be Minister Wang's third such visit to Africa since his appointment in 2013 and his second to Kenya.
During his previous visit to Kenya in 2020, Minister Wang met with former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, who is now in charge of the Energy ministry, during a stopover in Mombasa.
Minister Wang's visit is part of a long-standing tradition, with a Chinese foreign minister visiting Africa at the start of each year to strengthen bilateral relations.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian, 'China's diplomatic tradition fully demonstrates the deep friendship between China and Africa that has withstood the test of time and grown even stronger.'
Minister Wang's visit to Kenya is part of a broader tour that will also take him to the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
