On December 30, 2021, the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) announced a new maize purchasing price of Sh3,000 for a 90kg bag.
According to the Board, payment for maize is done within 24 hours upon delivery, providing farmers with timely access to their earnings.
The NCPB is purchasing the maize for commercial purposes and encourages all farmers within regions that are currently harvesting or have already harvested to deliver their grain to the nearest NCPB depot.
"The price of Sh3,000 we are offering will enable farmers get value for the maize they deliver due to the accuracy of our weighing services," said NCPB Managing Director Joseph Kimote.
The Board offers storage facilities at competitive rates, allowing farmers to opt for the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) or regular warehousing. Additionally, the NCPB provides other grain post-harvest services, including grain drying, cleaning, grading, and aflatoxin testing.
There are no administrative conditions for farmers to deliver maize to the Board, as long as the produce meets the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Grade I and Grade II standards.
