At a NASA press briefing, Hon. Elizabeth Ongoro made a shocking claim: ethnic cleansing is underway in Mathare, Kariobangi, and other estates in Nairobi.
According to Hon. Ongoro, the killers, disguised as Mungiki, shot victims at close range, claiming to investigate the situation. The perpetrators, riding motorcycles, escaped after committing the murders.
Mathare, Ruaraka, and Kariobangi have witnessed a series of ethnic clashes, resulting in numerous deaths. The Luo community and NASA supporters have been specifically targeted, with the Kenyan police accused of being part of the ethnic cleansing squad.
The use of live bullets in areas like Kisumu and the recent NASA welcome home parade for Hon. Raila Odinga, which resulted in several deaths and injuries, has raised many questions.
As the government faces the ethnic cleansing tag, it remains to be seen how it will address the issue of increased force against innocent citizens, particularly in areas perceived as NASA strongholds.
Historically, supporters of Kenneth Matiba, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta have welcomed them at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport without government interference. This raises questions about the government's motives in banning Hon. Raila Odinga's supporters from welcoming him.
While some believe the police are responsible for the killings, others claim that the notorious gang has been given police uniforms and is under direct government protection.
The application of double standards by the Jubilee government has fueled ethnic tensions across the country, with some believing that the Kikuyu elite is determined to stop Hon. Raila Odinga's influence by any means necessary.
