Two Attempt to Escape from Prison Lorry, Rearrested

On July 5, 2019, Amos Wanyoike Wanjiru and James Kamau allegedly jumped out of a prison lorry while being driven to Nairobi Area Remand and Allocation Prison in Industrial Area.

However, the duo was later rearrested by the authorities.

They are among 19 suspects facing robbery with violence charges in different courts, including Ruiru, Thika, and Murang'a.

Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, the duo denied the charges of escaping lawful custody.

Police constables Michael Njuguna, John Macharia, and Zacharia Keya, who were escorting the suspects, have recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The matter will be mentioned on July 10, 2019.
